Reports: Giants Interviewed Alyssa Nakken, First Female For Managerial Position
According to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, Nakken recently participated in interviews with the Giants to serve as their next manager. She is now the first woman in Major League Baseball history to have had a formal interview for a manager position.

In 2020, Nakken was recruited by former Giants manager Gabe Kapler, who was let go by the club last month. Nakken was afterwards the league’s first full-time female coach.
There are numerous other famous women in professional baseball, particularly at the minor-league level, even though Nakken is the only woman in the major leagues who coaches full-time. For instance, the Miami Marlins recruited general manager Kim Ng in 2020, making her the first woman to hold a general manager position in a major men’s professional sport in North America. Rachel Balkovec oversaw the New York Yankees’ Low-A team for the previous two seasons.

Here's the clip of her becoming the first woman to coach on a MLB field last year. (Ignore the absolute misogyny from the announcers). Wait for the end to see who shakes her hand

The Giants have spoken with two current employees, bench coach Kai Correa and third-base coach Mark Hallberg, in addition to Nakken, and they won’t restrict their search for a replacement for Kapler to internal candidates. He was let go by the Giants with three games left in a dismal campaign that saw them finish fourth in the National League West with a 79-83 record.

More women are joining minor league staffs, with over a dozen wearing uniforms, including Rachel Balkovec, who has managed the New York Yankees’ Low-A affiliate for the past two seasons. Nakken’s rise to the major league staff with the Giants, where she began in 2014 as a baseball operations intern, has coincided with this trend. The only female coach in the big league is still Nakken.
The company is anticipated to do more interviews outside of the team as well. How far along the company is in the interviewing process is unknown.
