Red Sox Prospect Ceddanne Rafaela Was Busy Playing Playstation When He Got An Important Call

Ceddanne Rafaela, one of baseball’s best prospects, was formally promoted to the major leagues by the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

However, it required several attempts to speak with the 22-year-old.

Chad Tracy, the manager of the Worcester Red Sox, attempted to call Rafaela first to share the good news, but she wasn’t answering. Rafaela was playing computer games, as he would later acknowledge in his first-ever press appearance on Monday afternoon.

When they eventually spoke on the phone, the Red Sox prospect alleges that Tracy played some kind of prank on him. ‘You didn’t want to play in the major leagues?’ he asked me. I said, “Of course!”

All of us have been there. While you’re conquering Call of Duty, your phone is either on vibrate or quiet. Or, occasionally, you find yourself being ruled.

Then, after spending four hours playing, you check your phone and discover that your boss has left you a number of missed calls.

Since joining Triple-A Worcester in June, Rafaela has played in 48 games while batting.312 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI, six stolen bases, and a.988 OPS. Rafaela is hitting after playing 60 games with Double-A Portland earlier in the season.302, 79 RBI, 36 stolen bases, 20 home runs, and a.870 OPS in 2023.

The Curacao center fielder and shortstop is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the Red Sox organization and the No. 77 prospect in all of baseball.

The Red Sox placed outfielder Wilyer Abreu on the paternity list and infielder Pablo Reyes on the 10-day injured list, which resulted to the rising star being promoted to the Major League.

Rafaela was excited for the chance to make his Major League Baseball debut at Fenway Park even if his future with the senior club is still up in the air.
