Ranking The Teams That Have Performed The Worst Since 2000

The Detroit Lions have not been very successful in the 2000s according to the NFL record books. In fact, one Lions club was ranked as the No. 1 worst NFL team since 2000 in a list just published by Kameron Duncan of The Spun.

Ranking The Teams That Have Performed The Worst Since 2000

The Lions, who finished 0-16 for the first time in NFL history, had a difficult season. That year, five quarterbacks saw play. It wasn’t meant to be, but Detroit may have had more luck if quarterback Jon Kitna hadn’t missed most of the season due to injury. Instead, the team’s offence and defence respectively placed 30th and 32nd. The first of Calvin Johnson’s seven seasons with 1,000 yards was recorded, but he was still growing into the role in his second year as a pro.

10. 2004 San Francisco 49ers (2-14)

9. 2007 Miami Dolphins (1-15)

8. 2000 San Diego Chargers (1-15)

7. 2010 Carolina Panthers (2-14)

6. 2016 San Francisco 49ers (2-14)

5. 2009 St. Louis Rams (1-15)

4. 2016 Cleveland Browns (1-15)

3. 2006 Oakland Raiders (2-14): After a 0-5 start, they won two straight games to close out October, which provided some cause for confidence. They would only have two victories all season.

This club finished the season with just 12 offensive touchdowns, yet they still received the first choice.

Unfortunately, they selected Jamarcus Russell, who is arguably the biggest flop in NFL history, with that choice.

2. 2017 Cleveland Browns (0-16): The second team in NFL history to finish 0-16 also won all of its preseason games before going winless in the regular season, similar to the No. 1 club on our list.

To make matters worse, despite losing four games by less than a score, this club was more competitive than the 2008 Lions.

The Browns were the first team in NFL history to have two consecutive seasons with 15 or more losses when they dropped 15 games the season prior.

1. 2008 Detroit Lions (0-16): The first 0-16 NFL club had to be included on this list.

The NFL club that will serve as the barometer of futility won all of its preseason games before going winless in every game during the regular season.

As a result of their 0-16 record, they received the No. 1 overall selection in 2009, which they utilized to choose Matthew Stafford, the tale has a somewhat happy ending.
