Raged Brandon Tierney Rips Yankees Hal Steinbrenner’s Leadership: “Can’t shine his dad’s shoes”

The New York Yankees’ present situation has made supporters feel like their dissatisfaction with the team is legitimate. The Yankees’ management was the target of announcer Brandon Tierney’s rage in a recent radio interview, specifically mentioning Brian Cashman, Aaron Boone, and Hal Steinbrenner.

Aaron Judge and company are now at the bottom of the AL East with a 15-15 record. Even though the team easily won their 20th franchise division title last season, it currently appears unlikely that they will even be able to make a Wild Card appearance.

Although there is obvious discontent among fans in general, a well-known New York Yankees radio host went further when he spoke to his audience on Monday.

Speaking on his WFAN program, presenter Brandon Tierney specifically targeted the top echelons of the company. Tierney’s impassioned criticism was directed at club owner Hal Steinbrenner, who succeeded his father George as team owner in 2008.

“It is a reminder that Hal can’t shine his dad shoes. And George Steinbrenner did a lot wrong but I can tell you this if George was owner of the Yankees, he would be firing Cashman, his son would be fired and Aaron Boone would be fired.” On the WFAN Sports Radio Show, Tierney said.

Tierney expressed his annoyance that the owners were powerless to discipline GM Brian Cashman. He said that things may have been quite different for a club with a $300 million yearly salary if George Steinbrenner had been in his son’s place.

“The Yankees run difference right now is plus two. Plus Two! With a payroll of three hundred million dollars. Now I can’t for my own health and for my own sanity, I can’t scream about this everyday for the rest of the year, but it needs to be said, the fact that Brian Cashman got a full year extension is a joke! It is an absolute joke.”

After the Yankees’ humbling 15-2 loss to the Texas Rangers on April 30, the radio broadcaster lambasted the team’s ownership. New York currently has a run differential of +1, having given up 117 runs while scoring 118. Last year, the team’s spread was almost +300.

Outfielder Aaron Hicks was one of the main targets of Tiernan’s rant.

“As much as I am tired of talking about Aaron freaking Hicks, who’s still on this team, for some maddening reason, you are not the New York Yankees when you trot that BUM out on the field every day,” Tierney said.

“He plays. He stinks! There’s no recourse! The Yankees aren’t earning their at-bats! They’re playing no matter what they do! It’s an embarrassment what the Yankees are.”
