Radio Hosts Are Sick Of Mike Tomlin Coaching Steelers

The head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers is not fired. It’s not how they do it. Since 1968, they have not sacked a coach. Perhaps Mike Tomlin ought to feel grateful for that.

Although Tomlin’s career has been amazing, the Steelers’ last five games have been a complete disaster. The Steelers fell to the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals at home in some way. This season, those clubs have a 4-20 record versus the rest of the NFL.

The first half was dull as the Steelers went down 21-3. Though Pittsburgh was unable to come back for a victory, the Patriots are a terrible club and were unable to shut out the Steelers.

The Steelers’ Week 13 loss to Arizona made them the first team over.500 to lose consecutive games to teams at least eight games below.500, when they were defeated 21–18 by the Patriots.

“Worst 2 game stretch of the Mike Tomlin era. Team gagged away a playoff spot,” Andrew Fillipponi, co-host of “The PM Show: wrote on X. “Just out of curiosity, how does a pro-(Mike) Tomlin Steelers fan defend him right now?”

Fillipponi argued earlier in the week that the franchise should part ways with Tomlin, who has coached the Steelers for 17 seasons.

The outcome on Thursday didn’t really alter that.

“Have a conversation,” he wrote. “Ask Tomlin what he wants to do. Tell him he’s not getting a contract extension. Let him interview with other teams. Then trade him there. Start over.”

The 51-year-old Tomlin guided the Steelers to the 2008 Super Bowl crown, but he hasn’t won the big one since. In actuality, the Steelers haven’t won a postseason game since 2016 and, until Kenny Pickett, who is now ill, gets well, don’t seem to have Ben Roethlisberger’s replacement yet.

It’s reasonable to wonder, though, if the Steelers would make such a move—something they haven’t done previously. The Steelers have only had three head coaches in the past 55 years: Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Tomlin. Because of this, Pittsburgh has earned the title of being the NFL’s most devoted team.

“This is when Mike Tomlin’s finest work is gonna happen? Eat my soiled shorts. best work? Dorin Dickerson, former NFL tight end and co-host of “The Fan Morning Show” said to open Friday’s broadcast. “The question is this… is it time to say goodbye, whether it’s firing or trading, Mike Tomlin?”

Dickerson pointed out that one of Tomlin’s best qualities as a Pittsburgh manager has been his team’s capacity to recover from defeat.

“This time, he didn’t and not only did he not, you’re sitting there down 21-3 midway through the second quarter against a team that had scored 13 points in the last three games,” Dickerson said. “You got embarrassed in back-to-back weeks. That tells me his guys that used to buy in, he’s lost that now. And so what else is there? That was a must-win game against the dregs of the NFL society. He’s lost, in my opinion, this team, so he’s gots to go.”

Even though the Steelers were in the playoffs going into Week 14, they gave off the impression that they were eager for the offseason to end. Maybe that offseason will arrive sooner than anyone in Pittsburgh thought it would a week ago. The head coach won’t think well of it.
