Quarterbacks With So much To Prove: NFL 2022

Few positions in the NFL are as crucial to a team’s success, and trajectory as the quarterback position and a number of seasoned passers enter the 2022 regular season squarely in the firing line.

Perhaps no quarterback has more on the line than Carson Wentz, the starter for the Washington Commanders and former No. 2 overall selection pick.

An NFL offensive coordinator told Heavy on the condition of anonymity to speak openly about a player, not on his club, “It’s hard to see what his career looks like beyond this season.” “This is already his third team. He thinks excessively. In the previous two seasons, he hasn’t been very accurate and lacks decisiveness. High-ranking Commanders executives told Heavy that the team is “all-in” on Wentz and thinks he can surprise this season even though there is a healthy degree of pessimism that he will turn his career around.

Here’s a look at the three quarterbacks facing a make-or-break campaign in 2022-

1) Baker Mayfield, Panthers

After being acquired by Charlotte via a deal with the Cleveland Browns on July 6, Baker Mayfield defeated Sam Darnold for the starting quarterback position with the Carolina Panthers.

Christian McCaffrey, a versatile running back, D.J. Moore, a field-extending receiver, and an offensive line that has undergone a makeover over the past two offseasons are some of the offence’s dynamic playmakers. In a somewhat open NFC, the Panthers want to advance.

The Panthers have a quarterback in Mayfield who has a history of pushing the Kansas City Chiefs to the limit in the AFC Divisional round at Arrowhead and who is fully motivated after a turbulent offseason and leaving the Cleveland Browns.

2) Daniel Jones, New York Giants

Daniel Jones’ final opportunity is now.

After selecting Jones with the sixth pick overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants revealed just hours before the 2022 NFL Draft that their new general manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, and organization had decided not to exercise Jones’ fifth-year option.

For a coaching staff with no connection to him whatsoever and under enormous pressure to turn around a team that hasn’t won a postseason game since 2011, Jones will need to perform at an exceptional level this season.

3) Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphin

There are several explanations one may offer for why Tagovailoa hasn’t yet realized his potential, including a subpar offensive line, subpar offensive tactics and play calling, a poisonous work atmosphere, and more. All of that is bad news for a young passer who is developing.

But this year, regardless of the justification, Tagovailoa needs to dispel any scepticism. The Dolphins improved their offensive line, traded for Tyreek Hill, hired Mike McDaniel, and generally should be a better offensive team than they were the previous year.

If not, one participant will take the biggest hit, whether or not that is just.
