QB Zach Wilson’s Dad Is highly Disappointed In His Sons Post Game Comments

It’s one thing for supporters to take offence at a quarterback for their performance or behaviour off the field. But you can tell it was a mistake when the quarterback’s father confronts him. QB Zach Wilson’s Dad Is highly Disappointed In His Sons Post Game Comments

Zach Wilson was questioned about whether he believed the offence “let down” the defence following a miserable performance in the Jets’ 10-3 loss (during which he completed 9 of 22 passes for 77 yards). He uttered “No” before saying it again.

That sparked a barrage of criticism for a player who serves as team captain and is supposed to represent the brand.

After the Jets’ Sunday defeat to the Patriots, Zach Wilson made those fateful postgame comments, and he was just about to board the team bus when his father texted him.

“Bro, what are you doing?’’ Mike Wilson asked his son.

“I didn’t realize what I said,’’ the 23-year-old second-year quarterback said Wednesday after being demoted to third-string in favour of Mike White. “I let my emotions get the best of me and it took ’til a little bit after when we were getting ready to leave and my pops gave me a call. It was before I even stepped on the bus. He shot me a text and said, ‘What did you say?’

“I was like, ‘I’m not sure.’ He sent [the TV clip] to me and instantly right there I knew I let my emotions get the best of me.’’

Zach Wilson, after a miserable performance in the Jet’s 10-3 loss (during which he completed 9 of 22 for 77 yards), was asked if he felt like the offence “let down’’ the defence. “No,’’ he said, before repeating, “No.’’

Wilson Made Amends

Zach Wilson addressed his teammates in front of the entire squad on Wednesday, determined to make things right with his colleagues.

Wilson was sincere and humble when speaking with reporters after the event.

Zach Wilson responded, “The second it was brought to my knowledge of what I said,” when asked when he knew he wanted to address his teammates. I merely wanted to set things right. My stomach was sick to my stomach. The way I handled the matter was not appropriate for a leader, let alone the football team’s quarterback.”
