QB Kyler Murray & Cardinals’ HC Jonathan Gannon’s Relationship Gets A Promising Beginning

Kyler Murray, the quarterback for the Cardinals, tore his ACL in December; it is unknown whether or when he will be ready to play in 2023.

Nevertheless, Murray started working out at Arizona’s facilities in April as the new head coach Jonathan Gannon’s offseason program got underway.

According to Kyle Odegard of Compare.bet , “There is a refreshing new energy within the building that has players excited for 2023.”

Murray is fast picking up the offence. With head coach Jonathan Gannon, he gets along well. Getting to work alongside Murray excites Gannon. Murray gets along well with quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

In a recent social media video, Murray can be seen exercising 13 weeks after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery. When asked about this what the HC had to say-

“I’m not [on] Twitter or wherever he posted that, but obviously I talk to Kyler a lot,” Gannon said. “He’s got competitive juice, so he wants to be doing everything that he can to get out there when he can to help the team win. So, pleased where that’s at. I think I told him the other day, ‘As good as you feel, there’s going to be a little bit of a dip. You’ve got to make sure you don’t overdo it, too.’

‘That’s a part [of] being smart when you rehab from any injury. You want to go, go, go. Sometimes you’ve got to push the pause button a little bit. But, excited about where he’s at and where he’s going.”

After a year of unfavourable news, Gannon makes a special effort to praise his quarterback. The player Murray sought was selected by the club in the first round.

Since Gannon/Ossenfort took control, the Cardinals have been quite outspoken about their appreciation for and believe in Murray.

“He’s a legit problem for defenses,” said Gannon. “He has a very unique skillset and that’s what I’m looking forward to. Working with him and showing him, ‘Hey, this is how defenses are going to try to stop you. Here’s what you need to be ready for.’

“These are the things that we’re going to do with him that’s going to help him move all the way up and down the field, score a bunch of points, be explosive and protect the football.”

Last offseason, Murray agreed to a five-year deal for $230.5 million. Before his season was cut short in Week 14 in 2022, he completed 66.4 percent of his throws for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Nobody knows where it will finally end up, but Murray is content, the coaching staff is eager to work with him, and the prospect of a promising future is still very real as their first season together approaches.
