QB Geno Smith Shows His Support To Russell Wilson Getting Benched By The Broncos
Just two short years ago, quarterbacks Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos and Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks were teammates. It may be hard to recall that today. Throughout Wilson’s final two seasons with the Seahawks, Smith provided support.

The rest is history: Wilson struggled in his debut season in Denver, while Smith had the finest year of his career with Seattle in 2022. Smith sent Wilson a supportive message after it was reported on Wednesday that the veteran wide receiver’s exit from the Broncos is probably impending.

Russ will start as the backup quarterback for the Broncos against the Raiders in their season-ending game on Sunday against the Chargers.
QB Geno Smith of the Seattle Seahawks expressed his disapproval of Denver’s handling of Wilson by posting a strong message of support for Wilson on Wednesday.
On social media on Wednesday night, Smith posted “FREE 3,” seemingly referring to Wilson’s phone number.
We need to put some more respect on Pete Carroll’s name.
He built something so special in Seattle with his players, his coaches, his systems, that everyone worked.
Russell Wilson worked, Geno Smith works, Drew Lock would work.

“We’re desperately trying to win,” Payton declared. “And sure, in our game today there are economics and all those other things. But the No. 1 push behind this, and it’s a decision I’m making, is to get a spark offensively.”
Following his on-sideline scolding of Wilson, Payton faced harsh criticism from both active and retired NFL players. With Payton in charge, Denver’s strategy to replace Wilson emerged as clearly as ever.
From Russell Wilson to Geno Smith, even Drew Lock, Pete Carroll's unique emphasis on 2-minute drills in EVERY practice–May through January–has propelled the #Seahawks to so many wins.
No matter who's the QB.

After giving up so much to get Wilson, the Broncos will suffer a setback if they choose to release or move him in the summer. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will almost certainly start Smith again this fall following a strong campaign.
It’s interesting to watch how these two teams fared with a transaction as significant as the Wilson trade back in 2022, but it’s evident that Smith is supporting his predecessor despite the chaos.

In 15 games this season for Denver, Wilson has thrown 26 touchdowns against only eight interceptions. Wilson may be owed $85 million by the Broncos, who are now 7-8, depending on when they cut him.
For the second year in a row, Seattle is well positioned in the postseason picture. One game ahead of the eighth-place Minnesota Vikings in the NFC West, the Seahawks are now in seventh place.
