Prior to UFC 275, When Was the Last Time the UFC Had an Event in Singapore?
The UFC returns to PPV action this weekend with the light heavyweight belt on the line in the main event between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira. However, this time around, the event will not take place in the United States or the Middle East. The UFC is headed to Singapore for the first time since October 2019. The last time the promotion went to the ‘Lion City’ Ben Askren headlined the fight card as he took on Demian Maia.
The UFC is a truly global business with fighters and fans from all around the world. One of the biggest factors in the stellar growth of the UFC was the promotion’s willingness to go to new cities and countries to expose fans to Mixed Martial Arts.
Singapore is home to one of the UFC’s biggest competitors in ONE Championship. But the promotion recognizes that the Asian market is an extremely big and untapped market, which is why in the past the UFC has put up events in Shanghai along with Singapore.
As the pandemic eases its grip around the world and more countries start to open up, the UFC will be seen in more countries as confirmed by Dana White himself. Paris is the perfect example of that as the promotion will be putting on their first-ever event in Paris later this year.
