Post Graduation What’s Coming Up For Stephen Curry : Davidson College ?

For many years, Stephen Curry, Davidson College‘s most well-known alumnus, was unable to have his jersey retired. Curry played there for three seasons, but Davidson only retires the uniforms of players who have earned their degrees. So, when Curry eventually finished the coursework required for his diploma graduation, Davidson decided to accomplish two goals at once.

The Golden State Warriors star’s unique one-man commencement ceremony, Davidson Hall of Fame induction, and jersey retiring were all held on Wednesday at the school.

Curry returned to Davidson for the spring 2022 semester, thirteen years after leaving for the NBA, and worked with four current and past teachers to finish his education. He received a bachelor’s degree in arts with a sociology emphasis but was unable to participate in the regular commencement ceremony at Davidson.

Davidson president Doug Hicks particularly enjoyed himself at the semi-joking individual commencement ceremony. Curry’s well-known “night night” celebration was dropped, and Hicks then declared something brash for the four-time NBA champion.

GRADUATION HIGHLIGHTS

Curry’s father Dell and Davidson coach Bob McKillop both spoke before his jersey was retired and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

For a player who elevated Davidson, a prestigious liberal arts college in North Carolina, to the national sports stage with an Elite Eight run and a first-team All-American junior season, the opportunity had been a long time coming. With the Warriors, Curry has now accomplished even greater things, but almost any one of his fans can tell you how it all began.

LeBron James congratulated Curry on Instagram after he received his diploma at a special graduation ceremony where he was also inducted into his alma mater’s Hall of Fame and had his number retired.

Curry once again added to his legend by giving a one-person commencement, unlike anything anyone has ever seen in front of a large audience.

Curry, 34, isn’t quite ready to talk about his legacy yet.

Curry told reporters after the ceremony, “I still feel like I have a lot more to do, and I still feel like I’m in my prime on the floor. Even away from the court, I’m still laying the groundwork for my future effect on the world.
