“Plenty of White Folks Doing Their Thing”: NBA Analyst Believes the Suspension of Ime Udoka is Unfair, Blames it on the Race

Ime Udoka, the head coach of the Boston Celtics, is presently the subject of controversy for engaging in a consensual relationship with a team member. Udoka is wed to Nia Long, a famous actress from Hollywood. They were married in 2010 and had been together for 12 years.

According to reports, Udoka had inappropriate personal contact with a female member of the team staff that was consenting. He could be subject to harsh disciplinary action as a result. The reactions to this shocking news have been very diverse.

The coach is now at risk of a full-season ban from the club, and at least one well-known NBA player, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, believes that race is a factor in all of this.

“[Why’s] that being done to a brother? Because I got news for you, America. There’s plenty of white folks in professional sports that’s doing their thing. And I say that not complimentary. I don’t see the information out about them. Why we talking about this now? … Ain’t none of our damn business unless you fire him. But if you keep him, it’s none of our business. It should have never been put out there by the Celtics organization.”

Stephen contends that race is a major element in this situation and that several “white folks” are engaging in similar behavior while going unreported.

He continues by saying that the Celtics had to accept accountability for disclosing the information about Ime Udoka. Questions about race will be raised as this story develops since a Black head coach is facing an unusual suspension for an incident unrelated to basketball.
