Before Friday night’s series opener against the New York Yankees, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made it quite clear that he would never don the pinstripes. In a chat with a podcaster, the top player for the Toronto Blue Jays initially discussed his position on never playing for the Yankees over the summer. Guerrero Jr. reinforced his thoughts and said that it was a personal choice with roots in his family before the game against the Yankees.

The son of former MLB player Vladimir Guerrero Sr., one of the game’s most feared batters at the time, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In the 1990s and 2000s, he played for a number of clubs. In 2018, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. One of the most promising young players in MLB is Guerrero Jr.


He made his Blue Jays debut in 2019, and his breakthrough year came in 2021, when he led MLB in home runs, earned his first Silver Slugger Award, was chosen an All-Star, and had his best season. He was once more chosen an All-Star in 2022, and he also received his first Golden Glove Award.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stepped up to the bat on Friday night, and he blasted the second pitch he saw well into center field for a two-run home run. He became fully involved in the game as a result, and the other standout moment of the evening was when, after taking a pitch to the elbow, he got into a violent argument with Anthony Rizzo. Guerroro Jr. obviously enjoys winning at Yankee Stadium and playing there.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stated in an interview before the game: “It’s a personal thing. It goes back with my family. That’s my decision, and I will never change that.”
