Patrick Beverley Shows Referee Picture On Camera After Blown LeBron James Call

Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley received a technical foul Saturday night at TD Garden for showing referee Eric Lewis a picture of his missed call on LeBron James.

At the end of regulation, as he drove to the hoop for the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum slapped James, on the arm.

Patrick Beverley Shows Referee Picture On Camera After Blown LeBron James Call

In Boston’s 125-121 overtime victory on Saturday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley may be blamed for the most inventive (and stupid) technical foul of the year.

Beverley took a camera, marched over to referee Eric Lewis, and attempted to prove that LeBron James was fouled at the start of overtime when it was obvious that Jayson Tatum hit LeBron James’ arm on a possible game-winning jumper.

Beverley tried to show Lewis evidence of the foul, but Lewis did not like it and awarded him a technical foul. Beverley raised the camera in the air, pointing at it and staring back at Lewis as he made his way to the Lakers bench.

“I mean, just ridiculous,” ABC’s Mike Breen said. “And Eric Lewis rightfully T’s him up.”

After the no-call, James became highly agitated, hopping up and down and pleading for a call before briefly kneeling on the court in anger. Tatum of Boston made the opening free throw off the technical foul to help the Celtics defeat the Lakers in overtime.

First-year Lakers coach Darvin Ham was not happy afterward, telling reporters, “As much as you try not to put it on officiating, it’s becoming increasingly difficult,” and added “The best player on earth can’t get a call … It’s amazing.”

Big man Anthony Davis said the Lakers “got cheated tonight.”

In a pool report after the game, Lewis said that Tatum made contact with James on the final play of regulation but his crew “missed the play.”

At the time, during the game, we did not see a foul,” Lewis said.

As for Beverley’s technical, Lewis said it was doled out because Beverley’s “actions were inappropriate in addressing resentment to a non-call.”

James is just 116 points away from tying Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the NBA’s all-time top scorer with his final stat line of 41 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists. On Monday, the Lakers play in Brooklyn, and on Tuesday, they play in New York.
