According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Justin Houston, a former linebacker with the Baltimore Ravens, allegedly signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Houston now joins a Carolina defence that includes pass rushers Brian Burns (12.5 sacks last season, a team-high), Frankie Luvu (7 sacks), Derrick Brown (defensive lineman), and Jaycee Horn (shutdown corner).

Houston, a proud member of the 100-sack club (111.5 over his career), went back in time last year and finished 2022 with 9.5 sacks for the Ravens. Baltimore received a wild card slot thanks to his efforts, but they were defeated by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round.

Houston is 34 years old, but his time in Baltimore has shown that he is still capable of playing at a very high level. The seasoned pass-rusher made a respectable impression in his first season with the Ravens in 2021, with 4.5 sacks, but in 2022, when he had 9.5 sacks, he was back to his best. Houston not only played 44 per cent of the club’s defensive snaps while only starting one game but also finished first on the team in sacks.

Houston will now join a Panthers pass rush that recorded only 35 sacks in the previous campaign in Carolina. However, linebacker Brian Burns, who recorded 12.5 sacks by himself in 2022, is a genuine standout for the Panthers. Houston can be a very beneficial addition to Carolina’s defense, even in a limited capacity, if he can continue to play as well as he did in Baltimore last season.

He was crucial to Andy Reid’s 2013 revival of the Chiefs. With Houston, Kansas City had six consecutive winning seasons (2013–2018) and five postseason appearances (advancing as far as the AFC Championship Game in 2018).

2019 saw the Chiefs release Houston as they underwent a significant defensive unit makeover. He then invested the next two years with the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Ravens.
