Padres CF Trent Grisham A Rising Star!

Who Is Trent Grisham?

American outfielder Trent Grisham competes in Major League Baseball for the San Diego Padres (MLB). He was first drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the first round of the 2015 MLB draft, with the 15th overall pick.

He established himself in 2020, playing in 59 of the Padres’ 60 games, hitting ten home runs and winning a Gold Glove in centre field. In 2021, his first full six-month MLB season, he hit 15 homers and posted a .740 OPS (106 OPS+).

Grisham Is A Rising Star!

Trent Grisham gave the 45,137-strong sellout audience at Petco Park the ultimate parting shot after delighting Padres fans with his most recent October heroics.

The unusual transformation of Trent Grisham from a weak-hitting centre fielder into a surprising offensive sensation this postseason is equally bizarre. The Padres’ 2-1 victory against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the National League Division Series on Friday night was decided by his third home run of the postseason, putting San Diego one victory away from its first berth in the NL Championship Series since 1998.

Trent Grisham started the bottom of the fourth inning by defeating Dodgers left fielder Andrew Heaney in a left-on-left matchup, launching a first-pitch fastball over the right-field fence for a solo home run that made it 2-0 for the Padres and enraged the Petco Park crowd.

Grisham, who also hit Cy Young Award winners Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom deep against the Mets in the NL Wild Card Series, is currently hitting.389 (7-for-18) with a 1.411 OPS through six postseason games. His three home runs are tied for the second-most in a single postseason in Padres history, behind only Jim Leyritz’s four in 1998, alongside Greg Vaughn (1998) and Ken Caminiti (1996).

As recently as last month, Trent Grisham’s disastrous regular season at the plate ended with a September hitting of just.107, such a breakout seemed unimaginable. However, Grisham’s recent output has been so crucial for the Padres that manager Bob Melvin jokingly said he was tempted to move the 25-year-old slugger up to the cleanup position.
