Padres Beat Dodgers At National League Division Series 2022

The Padres are headed to the National League Division Series following a wild seventh-inning rally that shocked Southern California. One of the biggest surprises in postseason history has sent the Dodgers, the 111-win powerhouse Dodgers, packing.

The Padres Sure Did Make It Dramatic, Didn’t They?

One hundred and eleven victories vanished in the span of five brief nights. In the seventh inning, as the San Diego Padres put together the rally of their lives, the Los Angeles Dodgers were losing ground one relief at a time. It may take the Dodgers all winter to figure out what struck them when a flash of mustard-colored lightning struck the Padres on Saturday night.

The Padres struck with a 5-3 knockout blow in the bottom of the seventh inning with five quick runs. The Padres beat the Philadelphia Phillies, who earlier on Saturday eliminated the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves in the other N.L. division series, to progress to an extremely surprising National League Championship Series versus the Dodgers. Tuesday’s N.L.CS opener in San Diego will feature the Phillies and the Padres.

The Padres won Game 4 of the NL Division Series 5-3 thanks to Jake Cronenworth’s two-out, two-strike, two-run single, which put the icing on a crazy five-run comeback.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described the shock factor as being really high. “High levels of disappointment.”

“It’s depressing.”

This division series loss for the Dodgers is a really astonishing development. The 1906 Chicago Cubs (116-36), the 2001 Seattle Mariners (116-46) and the 1998 New York Yankees are the only three teams in history to have won more games than the 111 the Dodgers won this season (114-48).

The Padres soaked a clubhouse carpet with champagne and light beer for the third weekend in a row. Both when they defeated the Mets and when they secured their place in the postseason, they did it. Those parties were small in comparison to this one.

The Padres will now face the Phillies in the National League Championship Series for the first time in 24 years starting on Tuesday night at Petco Park. They had to do some celebrating beforehand, though.
