The celebration was presented when Ryan Mountcastle hit his first home run of the year at Camden Yards during the Orioles’ series-opening win against the Oakland Athletics. James McCann raised a beer bong after the hit, started filling it with water, and Mountcastle chugged it, starting the latest Orioles celebration.

There is no official name for the celebration yet, although a number of possible names have been floated, such as the “hydration station” and the “home run funnel.” In honour of the team’s longstanding practise of referring to home runs as “dongs,” one fan dubbed it “The Dong Bong,” while Kyle Gibson referred to it as a “Homer Hose.”

The home run chain, a gold chain with the Orioles insignia dangling from it that is only worn by players who hit home runs, was a popular accessory for the Orioles last season. To increase clubhouse togetherness, the team has chosen to implement a more college-style celebration this year.

Two other Orioles players, Adley Rutschman and Austin Hays, who both hit home runs during the game, then chugged through the funnel after Mountcastle.

The average age of Baltimore’s roster is 27, although the city is still a few years away from contending at the highest level. They have a promising future and are gifted in every way.

Ryan Mountcastle is one of the guys that is spearheading the effort. He entered the MLB in 2020, and during the course of his first two seasons, he has been gradually gaining experience.

On Monday night’s bottom of the first inning, his power was on full show. On a 1-0 count, he drove J.P. Sears far to left centerfield to level the score.

The Orioles are hoping that the new celebration would assist to maintain team spirit and build chemistry throughout the season. The new celebration could be precisely what the club needs to turn things around after a difficult start to the season.
