NY Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux claims he’s ‘ready to go’ ahead of training camp opening

Kayvon Thibodeaux, a first-round draft selection of the New York Giants, claimed he will be “ready to go” when the club’s training camp opens up next month after allegedly sustaining a hip injury during the team’s organized team activities this spring. The edge rusher from Oregon who was selected fifth overall in the April draft, Thibodeaux, recently gave an update on his health on NFL Network and mentioned that he had already started exercising again.

Thibodeaux declared, “I’m perfectly healthy, and I’m doing good. I’m back in the gym and will be prepared for training camp. As soon as the rookies for the New York Giants report on July 19, Kayvon Thibodeaux will be prepared for his first NFL training camp.

Due to a minor hip injury he had during spring practice, Thibodeaux was forced to participate in OTAs and minicamp while sporting a non-contact jersey. The fifth-overall choice in the 2022 NFL Draft appears to have little trouble making a difference in Week 1 despite the problem. As a true freshman at Oregon, he recorded nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss, but his last two collegiate seasons saw him struggle to stay on the field.

These remarks should allay whatever worries Giants supporters may have had about Thibodeaux, who missed the whole 2021 season at Oregon due to injuries.

Thibodeaux, a former five-star recruit, made his Oregon debut as a true freshman in 2019 but only played in 17 games over the following two seasons due to the COVID-shortened season in 2020 and a few injuries that kept him from playing in all 10 games last year.

He had a total of 126 tackles over the course of his three-year collegiate career, including 84 solo stops, 35.5 tackles for a loss, 19 sacks, seven pass deflections, and three forced fumbles. Thibodeaux was a definite All-America pick in 2021 despite missing some time, and in 2019 he won Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year for his nine sacks and 14 tackles for loss.

Mario Cristobal, who coached Thibodeaux at Oregon, recently remarked that his former student has all the makings of an NFL superstar.

Everyone knew he was a terrific pass rusher, and he was exceptional as a competitor, worker, and teammate, according to Cristobal. “You must be explosive, have a quick initial step, understand how to use leverage, and possess natural power. He is able to analyze offensive tackles or setups and comprehend how the game works.”

Thibodeaux was one of the most sought-after recruits in the country before committing to Oregon as a member of the Ducks’ 2019 recruiting class.
