‘Not Going to Let Anyone Disrespect My Family’- Jorge Masvidal Says He ‘Comes From a Different Place’ Amidst On-Going Legal Battle with Colby Covington
UFC welterweight megastar Jorge Masvidal isn’t one to mince words and ‘Gamebred’ shared his principles about his family in a recent interview. Making mention of his ongoing legal battle against friend-turned-foe Colby Covington surrounding an alleged battery attempt, Masvidal aimed to provide some clarity.
While he made sure to not speak out too much given the active nature of the case, Jorge Masvidal said that he wasn’t about to let anyone disrespect his family. Moreover, he talked about how he came from a different place compared to many people, and hence operated a certain way.
“I come from a different place than many people and we walk differently in that place,” Masvidal told ESPN Deportes in Spanish. “I am not going to let anyone disrespect my family. I can’t talk much because I’m being charged with three felonies. I can only say that I am innocent.” [h/t MMA Junkie.com]
Jorge Masvidal vs Colby Covington: Inside and outside the cage
Many fans believed that the long-drawn rivalry between Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington would come to a head when both men would face each other at UFC 272 in March. Covington was the one who came out on top and, according to the MMA community, the rivalry was put to bed.
However, the story wasn’t completed just yet as Jorge Masvidal allegedly attacked Colby Covington in a street altercation at a Miami steakhouse. The attack reportedly caused damage to Covington’s Rolex watch as well as a fractured tooth. Photos of the same later made the rounds on social media.
The MMA world was split in half when talking about the issue as some believed Covington had it coming for his insistence on trash-talking his opponents. Others felt that Masvidal had 25 minutes to settle the score with Covington inside the cage, and resorted to violence after falling short at UFC 272.
No matter how you cut it, the stage is set for a dramatic rematch given the circumstances of their feud. While some believe a rematch would play out similarly to UFC 272, it’s tough to count out the ever-dangerous ‘Gamebred’.
