This year, holding out has come back. Nick Bosa, a 49ers edge rusher, Chris Jones, a Chiefs defensive lineman, and Zack Martin, a Cowboys offensive guard, are all under contract but failed to show up for training camp on time. Josh Jacobs, a running back with the Raiders who was selected as a franchise player, is also out due to a contract.

Bosa’s penalties as a participant in his fifth-year option include $40,000 for each day of training camp missed. For each preseason game boycotted, Bosa may also be penalized a regular-season game check under Article 7, Section 7(h) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Bosa, who has a base salary of $17.859 million, faces a $992,166 penalty for skipping today’s preseason matchup with the Raiders.

The 49ers are free to waive the penalty, which they most likely will do, according to Florio of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk on Sunday.

However, “If they won’t, it will become even more difficult to get one of the best defensive players in football under contract.”

The 49ers are still in a precarious situation regarding one of the best players in the league.

The 49ers are likely to waive the sanctions since the CBA does not forbid them from doing so. If they don’t, signing one of football’s top defensive players to a deal will be considerably more challenging.

There hasn’t been any hostility toward Bosa’s absence. Coach Kyle Shanahan recently ignored the fact that Bosa is skipping practice.

Finding a deadline that everyone can agree on becomes the issue. The 49ers presumably want Bosa to be back in the fold in time for the team’s Week One matchup against the Steelers. Prior to then, both parties will assume their final positions, and hopefully they will meet there.

Additionally, it implies that the Niners must reach at least $31.7 million or aim for $32 million annually for their top pass rusher.
