Nick Bosa Has An Unusual Warmup Routine During The Game

On Thursday, while the 49ers took to the practice field, the newly anointed richest non-quarterback Nick Bosa in the NFL was in the weight room.

Nick Bosa Has An Unusual Warmup Routine During The Game

When defensive end Nick Bosa emerged, he appeared to be in peak physical form and ready to play a key role in the 49ers’ 2023 regular season opener on Sunday.

Nick Bosa inked a contract that will make him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history prior to the start of the 2023 season. That was certainly due to the skill he’s displayed since making his debut with the 49ers in 2019, but he may also be able to thank the intriguing ritual he does to get hyped up.

Bosa rose to prominence at Ohio State, where he followed in the footsteps of his older brother (and former Buckeyes linebacker) Joey. He was taken with the second overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft by San Francisco, and he wasted little time playing up to the expectations that were around him when he entered the league.

Bosa took part in warming exercises as the 49ers were going through individual drills at the start of practice, directed by Dustin Perry, the 49ers’ head of strength and conditioning.

Bosa’s physicality, like that of many scary defenders, is complemented by the “Take No Prisoners” ethos that has helped him to emerge as one of the most dominating defensive ends to now prowl the gridiron.

He’s a quintessential “Football Guy,” and like many others who bear that moniker, he goes above and above when it comes to motivating himself.

As former colleague Joe Staley previously said, Bosa is one of many athletes who will talk to themselves to boost their performance, though the way in which he does it naturally took the retired DE off guard.

“It was like the second week in training camp when Nick got drafted. He’s lining up and he’s across from me and I just hear him mumbling to himself. I don’t know what he’s saying; I can’t really hear what he’s saying…

After that period was done, I went to him and I was like, ‘Dude, what the hell are you saying to yourself when you’re down in your stance?’ He’s like, ‘Oh, I just motivate myself and I say my name over and over. So he was down in his stance and he’s just going, ‘Bosa. Bosa. Bosa.’”

Unusual but yea whatever helps him do his best in the game!
