NHL: Boston Bruins Arrive In Red Sox Classic Vintage MLB Uniform For The Pre-Game

On their way to Fenway Park for the NHL Winter Classic, the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins travelled back in time.

The Bruins appeared in antique Red Sox clothes with bats and gloves to match their outfit, before scoring twice in the third period to defeat the Penguins 2-1. Patrice Bergeron, the captain of the Boston Bruins, even brought a tarred bat that former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek had given to him.

Red Sox infielder Kiké Hernandez told NHL.com, “They appear really legitimate.” “I’m hoping we can wear those outfits and have a retro event. Those uniforms were undoubtedly quite cool.”

The Boston Bruins rightfully tipped their cap to the Boston Red Sox, but they didn’t just wear a Sox hat or a jersey. They went above and beyond.

Pre-game is frequently used by players to flaunt their wardrobes. They might appear in a posh suit or a bizarre outfit that they had tailored just for them. They arrived for the Bruins dressed in vintage Red Sox garb.

Each Boston Bruin wore full, old-school Red Sox uniforms on their ride over to the stadium and the video of the team getting off the bus is certainly special for Boston sports fans.

Every player either had a glove on their hand or carried a bat into the stadium. They even had the old-school, all-black cleats on.

The Bruins really thought of everything.

Prior to the Winter Classic, the Penguins also expressed their support for the Pittsburgh Pirates of their city, but there’s something about the vintage Red Sox outfits with the glove and black cleats that elevates their pre-game antics to a whole new level.

According to Penguins coach Mike Sullivan, the throwback outfits were not a combined effort between the two teams, but a fitting way for the squads to show up.

“We did not coordinate with the Bruins, at least it’s not my understanding that we did,” Sullivan said. “I think it’s really appropriate, and in an event like this, in such an iconic stadium, in a lot of ways, I think it’s appropriate because it gives us an opportunity to tip our hat to all the great players and great teams that have played in this stadium over the years. And for me, I think it’s just part of the entertainment value, but I know our players were excited about it, and I’m sure Boston was as well.”

The Boston Bruins, who have a remarkable 28-4-4 record so far this season, will try to give their beloved fans one more victory against a 19-11-6 Pittsburgh team at historic Fenway Park.
