NFL’s Worst Kept Secret: Tom Brady & Sean Payton With The Saints In 2023

Tom Brady, the quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has once again been the subject of discussion on Tuesday. He will be a free agency at the end of this season and have the option to sign with any team he chooses in 2023. Along with this subject, there has also been a lot of discussion over head coach Sean Payton’s future.

This past summer, Payton proclaimed the end of an era by taking at least a one-year hiatus following 15 tremendously successful seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

NFL’s Worst Kept Secret: Tom Brady & Sean Payton With The Saints In 2023

When Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested that Payton would be considering a return to New Orleans and bringing Tom Brady with him, the Twittersphere went into a frenzy.

By floating, I mean that Florio refers to the Payton-Saints reunion as one of the NFL’s “worst-kept secrets.”

According to a source with “finger firmly on the pulse of pro football,” there is “a growing school of thinking in league circles that Payton, if he coaches in 2023, will return to the Saints,” Florio writes before that time.

Payton departed the Saints about a year ago, but he has spoken publicly his desire to return to coaching.

The Chargers and the Broncos have been cited in relation to Payton’s upcoming transfer, while other league insiders, such as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, have also mentioned a return to the Saints.

As the source put it, Payton’s not going to Denver or Carolina,” Florio continues. “With the Chargers making the playoffs, that job isn’t coming open. The only other potential destination would be the Cowboys, if Dallas loses in the opening round of the playoffs and coach Mike McCarthy gets fired.”

Even if Tom Brady joining Sean Payton in New Orleans would be a strange development, the NFL world might catch fire.

Brady, meanwhile, will become a free agent after this season and (startlingly) hasn’t declared whether he intends to play again or not.

Furthermore, it is well known that Brady and Payton have long desired to play on the same sideline. In fact, if Brian Flores hadn’t blown the cover on the entire situation earlier this year, they both would likely be in Miami right now.
