According to league sources, when Indianapolis and Green Bay first discussed a potential Taylor deal, the Colts requested second-year receiver Christian Watson from the Packers.

However, according to insiders, the Packers never considered trading Watson for Taylor or anybody else and promptly put an end to any such speculation.

A source informed ESPN that Taylor, who is on the physically unable to perform list due to an ankle injury, is “going to pass his physical and could pass it today.” When he becomes eligible to be taken off the PUP list in Week 5, Taylor intends to be ready to play by then.

Even with the season being in full swing, the Indianapolis Colts could be open to trading Jonathan Taylor.

“A couple of weeks ago, they put a Tuesday trade deadline [in place]. That deadline has come and past, and now they’re actually willing to listen to offers again for Taylor,” Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reported on Sunday. “But their hope is that Taylor ends up staying with them to play with Anthony Richardson.”

The Packers did not believe that they could trade Watson. Green Bay ruled out the prospect of trading Taylor for Watson and stated that they “never considered doing so.”

Watson, a second-round choice in 2022, has developed into one of the Packers’ most important offensive players and is expected to play with quarterback Jordan Love, Romeo Doubs, and other rising stars in a stable position.

Taylor was the subject of trade talks between the Colts and Packers, but no deal materialized. Green Bay is thought to have merely provided compensation in the form of a draft selection, which was insufficient to convince Indianapolis to part with its All-Pro running back.

“We try to be in every conversation,” Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said last month. “Anytime we have good players available to us, we’d like to make the Green Bay Packers better and we’ll look at those opportunities. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
