ESPN reported that the Saints are bringing in two veterans on Monday. Kareem Hunt, a running back, and Anthony Barr, a linebacker, will both work out with the team.

NFL Rumors: Kareem Hunt & Anthony Barr Planning To Join Which NFC Team?

Following the league’s decision to suspend Saints standout running back Alvin Kamara for the first three games of the season, New Orleans made the choice to invite Hunt for a visit.

Back in mid-July, I felt the Saints would be interested in Hunt and Barr as they prepared for training camp. New Orleans just lost Eno Benjamin to an Achilles tear, and Alvin Kamara will miss the first three games of the season due to the NFL’s ban. Kendre Miller, a rookie, and Jamaal Williams appear to be playing a lot more, although Hunt is a veteran that fits what the Saints like to do.

In Cleveland over the previous four years, Hunt supported Nick Chubb. During his tenure with the Browns, he was widely regarded as the finest backup quarterback in the NFL, but the organization had no interest in re-signing him for the 2023 campaign.

Jamaal Williams, a seasoned player who was selected by the Saints in the third round, and third-round rookie Kendre Miller serve as Kamara’s backup options while he is out and depth for the team once he returns. If Hunt were to sign in New Orleans, he would be forced into a rotating position after Week 4, which is something he faced when playing for Cleveland.

Barr, on the other hand, played his first eight NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before switching to the Dallas Cowboys for the 2022 campaign. The 31-year-old has four Pro Bowl appearances in nine seasons. His signing would significantly strengthen a defense that is presently headed by talents like Tyrann Mathieu, Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Marshon Lattimore.

Barr, would add seasoned depth to a linebacking group for the Saints that is expected to once again be anchored by Demario Davis. The lowest snap share of all of his healthy seasons in the NFL was by far the former’s 63% in Dallas last year.

If the Saints give Barr a chance, he could undoubtedly make a difference, so be on the lookout for any further information on a prospective deal. Both Hunt and Barr might be valuable additions to the Saints as they attempt to win the NFC South this season.
