NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys And Ezekiel Elliott Are Possibly Reuniting

It seems certain that Ezekiel Elliott will ultimately join the Dallas Cowboys again.

Elliott’s greatest opportunity to stay in the NFL remains in Dallas, despite being released by the Cowboys earlier in the summer.

Elliott is a free agent who can sign with any team in the league, but there have been persistent speculations that the Cowboys would re-sign him.

NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys And Ezekiel Elliott Are Possibly Reuniting

Those reports were confirmed by NFL Insider Brian Baldinger on the “In The Huddle” podcast by Audacy.

“The guy ran for 12 touchdowns last year,” Baldinger points out. “He’s still a productive player, he finishes drives. You want him out there on Wednesday in practice after a tough game on Sunday or Monday night.” At a lower cost and perhaps an incentive-laden deal, he says, it makes a lot of sense. “Tony Pollard has never touched the ball 200 times in a year ever. Dallas, Memphis, always. This year, they’re going to ask him to do that.

The Cowboys released Elliott because they couldn’t afford to pay two running backs $10 million apiece, according to Baldinger. Elliott was still productive. He was just too expensive.

But it’s evident that Elliott is highly regarded by owner Jerry Jones, and if the financial barrier were no longer an issue, it would seem obvious to bring back the former first-round pick instead of going after other free agents.

“You want him out there on Wednesday in practice after a tough game on Sunday or Monday night. You just want him. He’s just one of these guys. He likes the game. And Jerry likes him a lot,” Baldinger said.

“I think it’s a strong rumor, I really do,” Brian Baldinger says of Ezekiel Elliott signing with the Dallas Cowboys. “I believe there are legs to this rumor.”

Since 2016, the name “Ezekiel Elliott” has been linked to Dallas Cowboys football, and for good reason—he racked up 8,262 yards and 68 touchdowns for the team over the course of seven seasons.

He carried for 1,007 yards and nine touchdowns for the Cowboys last season, and he also added 39 catches for 371 yards and three more scores in the air.
