NFL legend Drew Brees becomes co-owner of Mad Drops Pickleball Club
Throughout the offseason, Drew Brees has made headlines a number of times for different reasons. His most recent Instagram post revealed that he had joined the Mad Drops Pickleball Club’s ownership group, which competes in Major League Pickleball.
Drew Brees responded to rumors that he was leaving NBC Sports by outlining potential future interests in a tweet two months ago (a move that would become official a month later). The former New Orleans Saints quarterback who led his team to a Super Bowl victory considered returning to football, emphasizing business and philanthropy, and attempting to play golf on the senior tour. Brees said that he may prepare for the professional pickleball circuit.

It turns out that the mention of pickleball hinted at something. One of Major League Pickleball’s 12 coed teams, Mad Drops PC, has added Brees to its ownership group. He expressed excitement about promoting the sport, which has the fastest-growing participation rate in the country.
Brees declared that he is a committed participant in a sport that has grown in prominence recently as well as a fan and study of it. “I look forward to helping promote fan interaction overall, growing the sport of pickleball, and raising awareness around the outstanding players and contests in MLP,” stated Brees.

According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, there are now more than 39 percent more pickleball players in the United States than there were two years ago.
The inaugural team tournament for the 2022 season of Major League Pickleball, or MLP, took place last month in Austin, Texas, the home of the Mad Drops Pickleball ClubBrees joins a group of shareholders that also includes the Los Angeles Lakers co-owner Jim Buss, the venture capital firm Good Alpha Industries, and real estate billionaire Ryan Serhant (host of Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing New York”).
Businessman Gary Vaynerchuk, co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks Marc Lasry, and former tennis great James Blake are among the other MLP team owners. Brees did not disclose his investment in Mad Drops PC to the public, and neither did the league.
The second team tournament for MLP will take place from August 5 to 7 in Newport Beach, California, and will have the biggest prize pool in pickleball history ($319,000), with the winning team receiving $100,000. Events are live-streamed and broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
