NFL Insider Reveals Jonathan Taylor Trade Price Post Return From Injury

Jonathan Taylor was meant to be the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive lynchpin for years to come. With rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson in desperate need of help, the running back was expected to be the seasoned leader on offence.

NFL Insider Reveals Jonathan Taylor Trade Price Post Return From Injury

Instead, the relationship between the team and the athlete appears to have entirely broken down. He plainly wants to go after owner Jim Irsay’s statements made him feel unwelcome.

The Indianapolis Colts attempted to trade him before the season began but were unable to find a bidder. They then put him on injured reserve for the first four weeks, guaranteeing that he was not hurt for any prospective deal.

Despite all indications that Taylor is healthy enough to be activated off the PUP list, the Colts may approve their star player’s trade request. While early talks have stalled, a large part of that is likely due to the team’s absurd initial asking price of a first-round pick or multiple Day 2 picks. They’ve even requested emerging great receivers like Miami’s Jaylen Waddle and Green Bay’s Christian Watson.

It’s no surprise that previous conversations failed. Not at that price, especially given Taylor’s expiring deal and the fact that he will need to be compensated as one of the top running backs in football either immediately or later this summer.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Colts are seeking “roughly” a “high second-round pick.” While he would not disclose numbers, common logic implies the Colts would want a choice between No. 32 and No. 45, if not higher, in return for their starting tailback.

Taylor, who led the NFL in running with 1,811 yards in 2021, is coming off a disappointing season in which he not only dealt with ankle problems but also saw his yards per carry drop from 5.5 to 4.5. However, the whole Colts squad struggled to get anything going, with even All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson falling short, finishing with the lowest Pro Football Focus player grade of his career at 68.4.

While a Taylor trade could potentially occur at any time, and some anticipate one to occur soon, Pelissero adds that the bids have “been nothing close” to what the Colts are asking for right now. However, trade negotiations are anticipated to heat up if Taylor is eligible to be removed off the PUP list after Week 4.

With Dalvin Cook gone, the Minnesota Vikings are visibly struggling, averaging only 66.3 running yards per game. They signed Cam Akers from the Los Angeles Rams, but he only played one game and averaged 1.3 yards per rush. So adding Jonathan Taylor as a backup alternative would not be a terrible idea.

Perhaps the Rams might attempt to replace Akers with a Colts back.
