NFL Insider: Packers QB Jordan Love Might Request A Trade If Aaron Rodgers Returns In 2023

If there isn’t tension around the Green Bay Packers quarterback situation, it won’t be an NFL offseason. Jordan Love’s fifth-year option is up for decision by the Packers, and given that Aaron Rodgers is anticipated to return in 2023, one Packers insider thinks that Love may ask for a trade as a result.

Jordan Love has patiently waited his turn to start for the Green Bay Packers, but as the team is leaning toward Aaron Rodgers, it might be time for Love to force Green Bay’s hand.

If Jordan Love is not the starting quarterback for the Packers the upcoming season, according to a Green Bay insider reporter, he will demand a trade from the team.

“I had a really great conversation with Jordan [Love] on Friday afternoon,” Packers reporter Jason Wilde said. “I think he very clearly, even though he wouldn’t flat-out say it, he does not want to sit for another year. So, if we get to year four, and Rodgers does come back, I am fairly confident that he will seek a trade.”

According to Wilde, he left the conversation certain that Jordan Love would ask for a swap.

A Packers season has been rife with quarterback controversy before, and Love has been there to witness it all. It’s unusual to see a first-round quarterback sit for more than three seasons, but that’s what the 24-year-old backup quarterback has been doing since he was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. If he doesn’t earn the starting nod soon, he might be prepared to move on.

It’s difficult to imagine Aaron Rodgers leaving the Packers, though, given how much money he could earn from continuing to play in the NFL.

Given that Rodgers has three years left on the massive four-year contract he signed in March, it is quite improbable that he will leave the team. Most people predict that he will be back for the Packers in the upcoming season.
