NFL Insider: Is Lack Of Responsibility Going To Cost Coach Robert Saleh, GM Joe Douglas Their Jobs?
In life and in the NFL, actions speak louder than words, yet every word spoken by NY Jets head coach Robert Saleh during his scheduled news conference on Monday was a disaster.
NFL Insider: Is Lack Of Responsibility Going To Cost Coach Robert Saleh, GM Joe Douglas Their Jobs?
There’s no getting around it: this was one of the worst and perhaps most damaging press conferences in recent memory by a Jets coach.
On multiple times, Saleh went out of his way to laud and protect Zach Wilson. He urged that the club must improve its performance around Wilson. He described Wilson as the Jets’ “unquestioned quarterback” in the future.
According to Dianna Russini, unless Zach Wilson clicks with the offense tonight and plays well, it's apparent his “time as the starter could be closing out.”
Multiple Jets sources told Russini: "Something needs to change, or it's going to cost jobs."

The squad is 1-2 heading into their Week 4 matchup against the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, and their lone victory came against a Bills team that was not themselves in the season opener.
Aaron Rodgers’ injured Achilles after four plays had a huge impact on their aspirations this season. Despite their great offense and defense, the head coach and general manager’s dependence on backup quarterback Zach Wilson may be what makes or breaks their tenures with the team.

The defense in particular is "Not happy" and tensions are on the rise, "Ready to implode."

Despite Wilson’s terrible play last season and since taking over the starting job in Week 1, Douglas has showed similar support by not pursuing a good backup option.
With the exception of Wilson, Saleh demonstrated accountability for every player and coach on the squad. It was a disastrous string of words from the Jets’ third-year head coach — and you can bet his remarks won’t go over well with the other 52 players on the team.
.@stephenasmith is putting the HEAT on Robert Saleh for lying about Zach Wilson 😳
"For Robert Saleh to go out there and to literally praise Zach Wilson and talk about this belief in him is utterly ridiculous. He deserves that heat." pic.twitter.com/Zx2yPKqfBe

On Sunday morning, The Athletic’s NFL insider Dianna Russini provided a fascinating update, implying that both still have high expectations from their employer this season.
“There is a lot of football to play between now and then, and it could be impactful football for the futures of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas. Two team sources say Jets owner Woody Johnson made no guarantees about Saleh’s and Douglas’ status before or after losing Rodgers to injury.”

Saleh refused to take responsibility for his quarterback, instead blaming the rest of the squad.
Saleh did not even consider the notion of Wilson being replaced if he continues to struggle. Douglas is in the same boat. Will they return with jets the next season?
