NFL Free Agency 2024: Best Remaining Free Agents On The List

Many of the best free agents were gone in a couple of hours during the first wave of NFL free agency. The first two days of free agency were among the busiest in recent NFL history, in one of the deepest classes of free agents in memory.

Thanks to a significant salary ceiling hike and an abundance of depth at premium positions, the activity didn’t decrease once the new league year got underway. The pool of available free agents is growing because even talented players are being let go and becoming unrestricted.

Prominent free agents that are moving on to other endeavors include Christian Wilkins, Kirk Cousins, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley. However, a lot of impact players are still available, Tyron Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowl tackle, being one of them.

Will one of the top free agents still on the market be signed by your team? After a week of free agency, here are the top players still available.

NFL Free Agency 2024: Best Remaining Free Agents On The List

Some of the biggest names in NFL free agency came off the board quite quickly.

Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons, Sauqon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles, Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens, Austin Ekeler of the Washington Commanders, Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers, D’Andre Swift of the Chicago Bears, and Tony Pollard of the Tennessee Titans had all found new teams by the time the new league year got underway on Wednesday.

In the opposing team’s defensive end, teams swiftly gathered Christian Wilkins (of the Las Vegas Raiders), Danielle Hunter (of the Houston Texans), Leonard Williams (of the Seattle Seahawks), Bryce Huff (of the Eagles), Patrick Queen (of the Pittsburgh Steelers), and Xavier McKinney (of the Packers).

Additionally, the players that have signed contracts since the formal start of free agency include Bobby Wagner of the Commanders, Arik Armstead of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Calvin Ridley of the Titans.

Tyron Smith

To be honest, I’m a bit shocked Tyron Smith, a former left tackle for the Cowboys, hasn’t been selected yet. Smith played his best game last season in Dallas despite his advanced age (33) and history of injuries, and he can be a key player for a club that wants to win the Super Bowl this coming season. Though the Chiefs are undoubtedly the front-runners in this game, I’d also keep a watch on the Rams.

Tyron Smith, an offensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, is joining the Jets, a team source announced on Friday. Although Smith carries significant risk, he is generally regarded as the finest offensive lineman available in free agency: He has missed 37 games overall in the previous four years, and he hasn’t played a full season since 2015.

Nevertheless, it’s difficult to disagree with Douglas’ choice to pay top dollar for one of the finest left tackles of his time, especially given the Jets’ obvious need to improve their offensive line following a dismal few years marked by misfortune and/or poor personnel choices. ESPN reports that the agreement is for up to $20 million and is for a single year.

Arik Armstead

Although Armstead played excellent football with the 49ers in San Francisco, they unexpectedly cut him; however, the NFL gained from their loss. Armstead is still a very excellent defensive lineman with three techniques who can elevate any NFL defense by providing vertical push in the run and passing game. He has been associated with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans. He would be most effective in a four-down front where he can force through one gap.

Following an inability to reach an agreement on a restructured deal, Armstead was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday.

He just finished a season that saw him participate in 12 games for the NFC champion 49ers, recording 27 tackles and five sacks.

He also is coming off a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury he suffered in a Dec. 3 win at the Philadelphia Eagles.

Justin Simmons

The 30-year-old Simmons, who is now the top free agent available, just ended a season in which he had 70 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defensed. With just a 58.4 passer rating against Simmons, the opposition quarterback, he was selected for the Second Team All-Pro for the third time in a row.

Justin Simmons, an unexpected addition to the Broncos due to his cap status, is one of the few safeties with both size and quickness. In addition to being an excellent tackler, he is a superb cover player. He keys and diagnoses with accuracy, displaying strong foresight and responsiveness. He’s not as good at man-to-man covering as he was in his early career, but he still has fluid hips and moves well in space. A number of teams ought to pursue him.

Trent Brown

Last season, Brown gave up three sacks and seventeen pressures on 579 snaps. Brown had a blocking grade of 80.2 from Pro Football Focus. He can play right or left tackle due to his flexibility.

Brown has been excellent while playing in a stagnant offense in New England, and he will now get the opportunity to play for a contender. massive, massive Brown can move players in the run game and is worth a large contract in free agency. He also has light enough feet to mirror in pass protection. With Brown, the Bears may significantly improve their offensive, and they still have a lot of money.

Devin White

White agreed to a one-year contract with the Eagles of Philadelphia.

White is a somewhat unique situation. He excels as a linebacker in the capacity that suits him best. With Lavonte David handling the majority of Tampa Bay’s green dot duties, White was able to run and pursue plays on the back end of plays. He won’t be too expensive for a club looking to deploy its linebackers in the blitz, and a team like the Seattle Seahawks may find it worthwhile to take a chance on him.

The Eagles have signed Devin White to a one-year, 7.5 million dollar max contract,” Rapoport tweeted.

After being drafted by the Bucs with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, White, 26, has spent all five of his NFL seasons playing in Tampa Bay. Having started 75 of 76 games in his career, he is a Super Bowl winner and former Pro Bowl player.

With two defensive touchdowns in his debut season, White’s career totals include 566 total tackles, 23 sacks, six forced fumbles, nine fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and 21 passes defended.
