NFL fans react as Las Vegas Raiders Hire First African-American Female President Sandra Morgan
Sandra Douglass Morgan was the first African-American woman to serve as team president in the National Football League after the Las Vegas Raiders nominated her in response to claims of a hostile work environment.
In a statement released Thursday, Raiders owner Mark Davis stated, “I knew Sandra was a force to be reckoned with from the moment I met her. We are fortunate to have her in charge”.

Morgan made several firsts in her professional life: she was the first person of color to lead the Nevada Gaming Control Board and the state’s first African-American city attorney. She was a litigation lawyer with Covington & Burling LLP and a native of Las Vegas.

Sandra Morgan is assuming a key position at a squad that has seen scandal and unrest in its senior ranks. President Marc Badain quit a year ago, and Dan Ventrella, who served as his interim replacement, was removed in May. Later, Ventrella charged that the Davis family, the team’s longstanding owners, had fostered animosity.
According to Morgan, the opportunity to join the Raiders at a pivotal point in the organization’s history is a once-in-a-lifetime honour. “I am eager to bring this team’s ethics, spirit, and dedication to greatness off the field into every aspect of this company,” said the coach.
In 2020, the Washington Commanders appointed Jason Wright as their president, making them the first NFL franchise to do so. After Kristi Coleman at the Carolina Panthers and Kim Pegula in Buffalo, Morgan is the third female president in the league.
“Her knowledge, moral character, and love for our neighborhood are vital to our company. I could tell Sandra was a formidable force as soon as I met her. We are fortunate to have her in charge.” Recently, the team president role has experienced fast change. After 30 years with the company, Marc Badain unexpectedly resigned from his position, and Dan Ventrella, who had been sacked in May, took over.

The Raiders just hired Sandra Morgan as team president….the first thing mentioned was the first back woman, like she has to prove something, THAT DOES NOT MATTER!! It just harms her credibility, in my opinion…
