NFL fans laud Carl Nassib for donating $100,000 towards Trevor Project for Pride Month

NFL defensive end Carl Nassib has revealed a relationship with The Trevor Project for Pride Month for the second year in a row. He will match contributions given to the charity up to $100,000. The former Las Vegas Raiders player announced his collaboration with The Trevor Project on Instagram. The project is a nonprofit organization that promotes LGBTQ adolescent mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

Nassib, an NFL Draft third-round selection out of Penn State, is a free agent for the 2022 season. The pass rusher had time with the Oakland Raiders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Cleveland Browns. Earlier this year, in March, he was freed. During the 21–22 season, he participated in 13 games and recorded 21 tackles and 1.5 sacks. The six-year NFL veteran has participated in 87 games and started 37 of them. 22 sacks and 4 forced fumbles are his career totals.

Nassib stated in his first interview after coming out that he did it primarily to “bring representation and attention” to the NFL. The LGBTQ community is underrepresented in the NFL, one of the most famous sports in the country. Being the first openly homosexual athlete in the NFL is “stressful,” he even admitted on a podcast with Darren Waller.
