NFL Deletes The Tweet With Huge Blunder Giving Tribute To Franco Harris

In Pittsburgh, Saturday night was a memorable one because the team was paying tribute to the late, great Franco Harris. There were other other memorials put all throughout the NFL, but one in particular seemed to stick out from the others.

The NFL committed a humiliating error on their Twitter account, which is why.

The legendary Franco Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers passed away overnight on Tuesday, December 20. The 72-year-old running back from the Hall of Fame.

Given that his No. 32 jersey was going to be retired during halftime of the Steelers’ Week 16 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Harris’ passing came at an especially unfortunate moment.

“Franco was the heart and soul of our team,” Steelers legend Joe Greene told the documentary crew. “When Franco arrived, we became the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

The NFL shared a picture of a massive Mexican flag that was displayed in the Acrisure Stadium stands during the Raiders and Steelers’ primetime matchup. It was located adjacent to a big Harris No. 32 banner.

The flag was mistaken for the Italian flag by the NFL.

The NFL shared a picture of a large Mexican in the stands during a Steelers vs. Raiders game in Pittsburgh during prime time, near to a huge banner bearing Harris’ number 32. To the majority of people, at least, it was very clear that the flag was a Mexican flag.

Given that late Franco Harris’ parents were from Italy, it is understandable why the NFL may have initially believed there would be an Italian flag flying in the stands in his honour.

The NFL deleted the tweet, but not before someone could grab a screenshot of it, so they must have realised their error.
