NFL Commissioner Roger Godell Hints Towards NFL Expansion Amidst Reports of College Football Playoff Expansion

As of right now, the expanded college football playoff will make its debut at the very least after the 2026 season. Now the NFL has been planning something of its own. The earliest time to begin the NCAAF expanded playoff is after the 2024 season. However, the objective is to begin as soon as feasible.

That would give the 12-team field access to an annual salary that might approach $1.6 billion. College football and its inevitable expansion of the playoffs, move along. Now the NFL and Roger Goodell are joining in the fun.

Roger Goodell NFL

The NFL’s goal under Roger Goodell has been to gain international recognition for its brand. However, it seems he’s going a step farther than merely playing a few games abroad.

Roger Goodell talks NFL expansion

The NFL has made hints about putting a team in London for years. The league has for the first time ever suggested that a four-team division with its headquarters in Europe would be possible.

“There’s no question that London could support not just one franchise, I think two franchises,” Goodell began.

“I really believe that.”

“That’s part of what we’re doing, right?” Goodell said. “We’re trying to sort of see, could you have multiple locations in Europe where you could have an NFL franchise? Because it would be easier as a division.”

Due to the fact that those clubs would face one another twice a year, it would be simpler as a division. Twelve games would be played between the European teams each season, without any of the European teams having to travel to the United States or the United States having to travel to any of the European teams.

After that, the NFL would locate two additional places in Europe to complete the four-team division. If there are just two teams in Europe, transportation becomes a problem. Roger Goodell might then establish a division after increasing to four. There would be less travel because those teams would play each other six times.
