NFL analyst Kyle Brandy hammers Russell Wilson, calls Broncos QB a ‘poser’
After the Denver Broncos lost to the Indianapolis Colts 12–9 in overtime, at least one well-known NFL expert is tired of Russell Wilson’s crazy moves. On Friday’s episode of Good Morning Football, Kyle Brandt of NFL Network referred to Wilson as a “poser” and “one of the least honest personalities we have in this league.”
Brandt said that Wilson is not a wrong person, not adding that Wilson has long had fakery about him, but it seems to have become worse ever since he was traded to Denver. Over the course of his NFL career, he has attempted to come up with catchphrases and monikers for himself.
In May 2018, Wilson created the personality of “Mr. Unlimited.” At the conclusion of his first press conference with the team, Wilson coined the slogan “Broncos country, let’s ride” at the end of his first press conference with the team in March.
For no apparent reason, including following Thursday’s defeat, the 33-year-old keeps saying that at the conclusion of his post-game press conferences. There have long been whispers that some of Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks teammates didn’t care for him.
Brandt said Russell Wilson is one of the least genuine personas in the league. “In my opinion, Russell Wilson is a poser. And while I do believe he is a good person, I do not believe he is a bad person. Rather, I believe he attempts to be someone he is not… And in order to earn $245 million, a person must either be an exceptional player or a truly terrific guy who is loved by his teammates.”
In a 2017 story by ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, Richard Sherman, a former Seahawks cornerback, blamed Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll for the team’s failure to win many Super Bowl championships during the “Legion of Boom” era.
After Seattle beat Wilson and the Broncos 17-16 in Week 1 of the season, Sherman and other former Seahawks players took to Twitter to celebrate Wilson’s loss.
Wilson has without a doubt been among the top quarterbacks of this age group. In his ten seasons with the Seahawks, the 33-year-old, a nine-time Pro Bowler, made the playoffs eight times, including consecutive trips to the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2014.
Wilson’s reputation with the Seahawks during a ten-year period, though, was not going to follow him to the Broncos. He has only completed 1,254 yards of passing in his five starts, with four touchdowns and three interceptions.
The Broncos are 3-3 after losing their last two games, and their 15.0 points per game offense ranks 31st in the NFL.
