New York Yankees News: Giancarlo Stanton & Josh Donaldson Set To Return After The Hamstring Injury

Giancarlo Stanton and Josh Donaldson, two New York Yankees sluggers, are both close to beginning a rehab assignment.

The starting lineup for the New York Yankees could soon return to full strength.

Giancarlo Stanton & Josh Donaldson Set To Return After The Injury

To recover from their individual hamstring injuries, Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton must do so without experiencing any setbacks.

Before the game Donaldson, who played third base for nine innings, was optimistic that “I’m gonna be flying out to LA the next day or so” if Tuesday went well, and he finished 1-for-4 with a single.

Stanton, who served as the designated hitter and went 0-for-3 with a walk, was more reserved, saying he’s gonna “get through today and go from there.”

Two encouraging injury reports on OF/DH Giancarlo Stanton and 3B Josh Donaldson were sent to the New York Yankees. According to MLB.com, Stanton, who is slated to undergo a rehab assignment, is aiming for an early to mid-June return. His rehab assignment is anticipated to begin around May 29th.

According to MLB.com, Aaron Boone hasn’t ruled out Donaldson making a May 29th comeback from his injury. However, making a comeback on June 2 against the Los Angeles Dodgers is reportedly more likely.

He hadn’t faced live pitching since getting hurt, with hitting off a machine being the closest he had been until Tuesday’s game.

On April 15, Stanton hurt his hamstring while accelerating to second base after hitting a double. He explained that the importance to the rehab assignment was to “get some games under my belt or some at-bats, at least,” since this was a necessary step in regaining his timing.

With a more defined route for Stanton’s return to the lineup, the 33-year-old will start as designated hitter with the intention of ultimately recording time in the outfield, a position that would benefit Stanton due to the movement, according to the manager.

The return of Giancarlo Stanton will be crucial for New York. He possesses tremendous power, which aids in providing Aaron Judge with the necessary protection in the lineup. Stanton’s future success will depend on his ability to stay healthy after his comeback. The slugger has regrettably struggled with injuries over the years, so the Yankees may decide to use him more at designated hitter when he returns.

With Gleyber Torres starting most games at second base and Anthony Rizzo continuing to play first base, DJ LeMahieu has filled in as the regular third baseman since Donaldson’s injury, when he was batting just.125 with just two singles and one home run in 16 at-bats.

However, Donaldson does not expect any more stress or significance with each at-bat than usual.

Although Josh Donaldson’s comeback won’t have exactly the same effect as Stanton’s, it shouldn’t be disregarded either. Although Donaldson is no longer an MVP-caliber player, the seasoned third baseman still has the ability to influence events on the field. His inclusion in the lineup gives the Yankees more depth overall.
