New York Mets News: Francisco Alvarez Receives Praise Yet Blames Himself For Celebrating Early

The key moments of the New York Mets’ blowout-turned-heartbreaker 10-7 defeat to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night had them pausing and looking at long, spectacular home homers.

New York Mets News: Francisco Alvarez Receives Praise Yet Blames Himself For This

In the third inning of the Mets’ 10-7 loss to the Rockies at Coors Field, the catcher seemed to have a leadoff triple, but a replay revealed that he was out.

“That wasn’t ideal, that was on me because I celebrated too early and I got off the bag and they got me with the challenge,” Alvarez said through an interpreter. “I think next time I just need to celebrate after the play is officially over.”

“I feel like I am to blame a bit,” said Alvarez, who blasted a three-run homer in the sixth that tied it 6-6. “I feel like had I stayed on the bag at third base we would have been able to score a run in that moment. “After we took the lead the emotions were high — super high — and even when we went back down the emotions and the momentum still felt high and we felt that we could win the game, but it just turned out that we came up a little short.”

The highlight of a five-run sixth inning that erased what had been an early six-run hole created by ace Justin Verlander was Francisco Alvarez’s three-run blast. Jake Bird, a Colorado reliever who had just been brought in to help, left a curveball over the center of the plate. Alvarez watched, moved halfway down the first-base line, beat his chest, and then started jogging around the bases as it flew 435 feet to leftfield to tie the game.

In the sixth inning, the Mets maintained their uprising. Six hits were collected by the Mets in the sixth inning, including a significant double by Brett Baty and a three-run home run to tie the game. The Mets led the game into the seventh inning with a tie after scoring five runs on six hits.

The Rockies tied the score at 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to a double by Elias Diaz and a two-run home run by Ryan McMahon after the Mets took the lead for the first time in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Marte.

The Rockies subsequently took the lead once more in the bottom of the eighth inning on  a triple by Jurickson Profar and an RBI single from Elias Diaz. After eight innings it was 10-7 Rockies.

The Rockies ultimately went on to defeat the Mets 10-7 in a back-and-forth exciting offensive and defensive game.
