New York Jets Coach Confirms Donald Trump’s Huge Claim During a Recent Rally in North Carolina
Former President Donald Trump has been totally enamored with football for much of his life. Former President Donald Trump mentioned the New York Jets’ comeback victory over the Cleveland Browns during a rally recently held in North Carolina.
Fans weren’t sure how to interpret the news at the moment. But this week, Robert Saleh, the head coach of the New York Jets, acknowledged that he spoke with Trump over the phone.
Trump has made unsuccessful attempts to buy an NFL club, control the New Jersey Generals in a former USFL, and criticize athletes like Colin Kaepernick who have kneeled during the national anthem to denounce systematic racism.
New York Jets coach Robert Saleh confirms Donald Trump’s claim
“It was the craziest thing,” Trump said.
“And I called the coach, because I think the coach is like a great guy. General manager [Joe Douglas], too, coach. And I said, ‘Coach, you’re greater than Vince Lombardi.’ Because Vince Lombardi never did that. He was never able to pull out a game like that. That was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. The game was done. It was over.”

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said during an appearance on ESPN Radio’s The Michael Kay Show that he spoke with Trump after the team’s victory in Week 2.
“Love him or hate him — and I’m not a politician, I’m a football coach — to get a call from a current or former president is pretty cool,” Saleh said.
“It was surprising and if you would have told 20-year-old me that one day I would get a call from a president of the United States congratulating us on a win as an NFL head coach, I’d have told you to get the hell out of my face, man. You gotta be lying. So, it’s pretty surreal.”

Perhaps Robert Saleh will surpass one of the greatest coaches in American sports history if the Super Bowl trophy is one day renamed in his honor. We’ve become accustomed to hearing remarks from Trump that defy comprehension. This weekend, the New York Jets play the Pittsburgh Steelers. If they triumph, perhaps Saleh will receive another call.
