New England Patriots QB Mac Jones fined $10,609 for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ in defeat against Buffalo Bills

The New England Patriots suffered a crushing 24-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 13 of the 2022-23 NFL season. And it appears that quarterback Mac Jones didn’t take the defeat too well.

The 24-year-old was sacked on second-and-goal and retaliated by flicking the ball at Buffalo defensive end A.J. Epenesa before turning away. However, no flag was thrown at the play at the time. Cameras later picked up the offense by the quarterback and the NFL then decided to fine Jones $10,609 for his unsportsmanlike conduct.

It was a rough game for Jones, who may have been frustrated at his own performance. He managed a rather underwhelming 10 points and 242 total yards in the loss to the Bills.

Was Mac Jones the only player to be fined in the game?

However, Jones wasn’t the only player to be fined in that game as Bills safety Damar Hamlin made a dangerous hit on Patriots receiver Jakobi Meyers. Meyers was then placed on the Pats’ injury protocol. Officials decided to eject Hamlin and he was later fined $4,806 for unnecessary roughness.

The Patriots are currently last in the AFC East with just six wins and six defeats this season. While there is still a small chance of New England making it into the playoffs, they may not be able to play in the postseason even if they win all their remaining games.

Bill Belichick’s side will now travel to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 14 and the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15. They will then host the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins in Week 16 and Week 17 respectively. Their final regular season game will be against the Buffalo Bills in January.
