Nets GM shares view on Ben Simmons‘s Future in the NBA

Nets General Manager, Sean Marks, has expressed optimism about the future of Ben Simmons, shedding light on the ongoing speculation surrounding the point guard. Marks shared his belief during a press conference following the Brooklyn Nets’ Summer League victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday.

When asked about Simmons potentially returning to his All-Star form, Marks remained hopeful, considering Simmons’s age and overall health. He emphasized that the expectation is for Simmons to regain his previous level of play, acknowledging that if Simmons were older, it might be more challenging to make such predictions. However, knowing that Simmons is in his mid-20s and still potentially approaching his prime, Marks expressed the Nets’ commitment to supporting him in his journey to rediscover his form and possibly even surpass it.

Simmons has faced setbacks in his career due to back injuries, which have hindered his progress and potential. After being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Nets, the 26-year-old was only able to participate in 42 games before being sidelined for the rest of the season due to an impinged nerve in his back. Prior to that, he missed the entire 2021-22 season after undergoing surgery for a herniated disk in his back.

Marks confirmed that the Nets are closely monitoring Simmons’s recovery progress but mentioned that he has not yet started participating in full-contact drills such as 3-on-3 or 5-on-5 sessions.

The Nets remain hopeful that Simmons can overcome his injury setbacks and return to his previous form, and they are dedicated to supporting his journey back to the court. With his young age and the potential for further development, there is optimism that Simmons can not only regain his All-Star level but also evolve his game to new heights. Ultimately, the key factor in Simmons’s future success will be his health, and the Nets will work diligently to ensure his well-being as he progresses towards his potential comeback.
