NBA Trade Rumors: Zion Williamson Shares “No relationship” With The Team

According to NBA speculations, the New Orleans Pelicans may think about dealing Zion Williamson in order to advance in the draft and choose a player of Scoot Henderson’s ability. In his article on these speculations for ESPN, Brian Windhorst stated that the Pelicans are one of the teams hoping to move up before the draft the next week.

NBA Trade Rumors: Zion Williamson Shares “No relationship” With The Team

Zion Williamson has struggled with injuries for the most of his NBA career, which has led some to assume that the New Orleans Pelicans want to get rid of him.

The information about Zion and his teammates is nothing new. In the past, JJ Reddick has referred to him as a “detached teammate,” and last season, when the Pelicans acquired CJ McCollum, he didn’t contact him until after he had been publicly criticized for it.

According to recent reports, the team reportedly discussed trading Williamson with teams at the top of the draft next month, a move that may have strained his relationship with the company.

Williamson’s connection to the Pelicans is almost nonexistent, claims ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

“I am kind of surprised at how out there it is,” Windhorst said during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday. “Over the last three or four days, as I talk to more and more teams, I continue to hear more conversations that the Pelicans are having about [trading Williamson].”

There is no relationship between Zion and the organization,” Windhorst said on his podcast. “And minimal relationship between Zion and his teammates, from what I understand.”

As Zion once again missed a large portion of the season, it appeared that their relationship hadn’t improved this year. McCollum also appeared to criticize Zion for being unavailable after the Pelicans were ousted from the play-in game.

With the first overall pick and a big contract extension for Zion, the Pelicans have made significant investments in him, and it appears that those expenditures will pay off.

In order to choose Scoot Henderson, the Pelicans are considering trading up in the 2023 NBA Draft. The majority of league observers think that would require New Orleans to move Williamson, who has only played in 114 of the 308 regular-season contests that have been played since being selected by the Pelicans with the first overall choice in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Duke.

In July 2022, Williamson extended his designated rookie deal with the Pelicans for five years and $194.3 million. The left-hander participated in 24 games during his first season and 61 games during his second season. The two-time All-Star played in just 29 games this past season and missed his third year entirely.
