NBA Trade Rumors: Heats Might Have An Eye On Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks

There are rumours that the Miami Heat may make a move for former Memphis Grizzlies forward Dillon Brooks in the summer.
The Grizzlies reportedly informed Brooks at his parting meeting with team executives this week that they would not make him an offer for a new deal “under any circumstances.” This information was published by The Athletic.

Their contract of Brooks will be unrestricted. Rival organizations may now choose whether or not to make an offer knowing that the Grizzlies won’t accept it. Few teams can stand everything that Brooks brings to the locker room. The Heat can and ought to go after Brooks this offseason if they can find the money.

When he got into an argument with LeBron James during their first-round matchup, Brooks became the buzz of the postseason. After winning Game 2, Brooks called James “old.” James and the Los Angeles Lakers later defeated the No. 2-seeded Memphis Grizzlies in six games.

SI’s Chris Mannix identified the Heat as a likely front-runner to sign Dillion Brooks on a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, saying:

They could use a defensive-minded wing [like Dillon Brooks], and I could see him making his way down there and the Heat being aggressive and trying to get a guy at a relatively low price. “Every time you see kind of Duncan Robinson running around there defensively, or Tyler Herro before him, you know they could use a defensive-minded wing [like Dillon Brooks]. That feels like the front-runner right now, in my opinion.

The Heat could use another wing defender, but considering how badly they also need shooting and offence, they could definitely find someone better than Brooks. In addition, it seems unlikely Miami could offer him the larger offensive role or anything close to the salary he’s seeking.

On defence, Brooks does support the boldness. He is a top-tier wing defender who is most certainly going to be nominated to an NBA All-Defensive team. He compensates for his poor agility and short wing span with unwavering effort and intellect. He improves the worth of any defence.
