NBA Summer League: Best Performers in 2022

Basketball in the Summer League is pure joy. It’s enjoyable. Additionally, it’s disorganized, guard-driven, sloppy, and aesthetically frequently resembles a pickup game at the YMCA rather than a formal competition, and it’s not a great indicator of NBA success. Summer League is shallow entertainment, much like Vegas itself.

We get our first look at the new draught class that will join the league in the next season thanks to the NBA Summer League, while other second-year players get some solid playing time that they missed out on last year. Many second-year athletes are maximizing their opportunities this summer, even though all eyes are on the top lottery prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft.

With their Summer League statistics, Chet Holmgren and Paolo Banchero have been in the news, but some of the second-year players are competing for MVP honors in Las Vegas.

Standout players in the 2022 Summer League

Moses Moody – Golden State Warriors

The Warriors brought three players to Las Vegas who they will be counting on for the next regular season in the hopes that they would show indicators that they are ready for a greater role. Moody held off ongoing nuts till Vegas.

He scored barely 11 points per game on average in the California Classic, but in the opening game of the Las Vegas Summer League against the Knicks, he scored 34 points. He was polished and unmistakably appeared to be prepared to step into a role and limit the playing time of Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry the next year.

Cam Thomas – Brooklyn Nets

Cam was a scorer in Brooklyn last season, while Thomas has flourished playing against the less skilled and poorly organized defenders of Summer League. In the Nets’ first game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he scored 31 points.

Following that, he outperformed Philadelphia with a 26 and 7 assist effort after being counseled by his coaches to spread the ball around more. Thomas scored 29 points against the Grizzlies in his final game to end the Summer League with a 29-point per game average.

Quentin Grimes – New York Knicks

With the addition of playmaking to go along with his defense and shooting, Grimes has developed and progressed as a player. In Las Vegas, he has averaged 24 points per game while also collecting rebounds and assists, displaying an outstanding level of flexibility. He has scored just 24 points over the three Knicks Summer League contests.

Josh Giddey – Oklahoma City Thunder

Josh had the most assists (8 per game) in the Vegas Summer League, and in the two games he played, he averaged 13 points per game. Giddey participated in games in Salt Lake City and Las Vegas in order to practice with the new Thunder center, Chet Holmgren.
