NBA Star Rookie Signs a Big Shoe Deal With Nike Despite Missing the Whole 2022-23 Season

Early in their careers, the best rookies typically sign with a shoe brand. According to Nick DePaula, Chet Holmgren, the second-overall choice in the 2022 NBA draft, and 13 other NBA rookies have inked shoe deals with Nike. He joins Josh Giddey, another member of the Oklahoma City Thunder, with Nike. Giddey joined them right before the previous campaign.

Due to a foot injury, Chet Holmgren will miss the whole 2022–23 campaign. During the offseason, he was participating in a pro-am game in Seattle when he sustained a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Holmgren has a deal with Nike despite his anticipated absence.

Since his high school days, Holmgren has been a household name in basketball households because of the lanky seven-distinctive footer’s style of play. Lottery choices in the annual drafts, and especially the top-5 picks, are highly sought after by the shoe and apparel industries since they are expected to become stars and draw a lot of attention to themselves.

But Holmgren is accustomed to being in the public eye. The 7-foot-1 big man made waves during Summer League because of his early promise.

The fact that Nike was prepared to hire Holmgren, despite the fact that he missed his whole rookie season, is encouraging. Due to a Lisfranc injury that will keep him out for the entire 2022–23 regular season, the No. 2 selection will not play.
