NBA Rumors: Russell Westbrook To Retire? Is This His Final Season In NBA?

With his failure to perform in the Lakers, now there is a rumour revolving around the NBA world that the Lakers Guard Russell Westbrook might retire from NBA after this season.

The LA Lakers could fare even worse this season after so much hope that it would be a vast improvement over their disastrous failure last year. They have lost their last four games, and their season could end 0-10 or worse.

Many have blamed Russell Westbrook for the Lakers’ struggles since last season and during their first three games this year. That notion has been totally disproved without him for at least one game. Whether or not the previous MVP is on the team, Hollywood is still a terrible team.

Is Russell Westbrook Retiring?

Because of his persistent 3-point shooting issues, Westbrook has relied more on his athleticism throughout his career. And as he gets older, it gets harder for Westbrook to be as efficient as he was at the beginning of his career. Additionally, the new NBA development hasn’t really helped.

Although Westbrook has had a difficult time adjusting to life with the Los Angeles Lakers, I don’t think anyone expected this to be the end of his career, but rumours of his NBA retirement should be treated with caution. However, it is precisely what might be a possibility.

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated commented on The Dan Le Batard Show that he wouldn’t be shocked if Russell Westbrook announced his retirement following the current NBA season.

If he makes the correct choices in his new role as the Purple & Gold’s sixth man, Westbrook, 33, might completely change the course of his career. Brody needs to let go of his ego, realise that his athleticism is transitory, and accept a sixth-man role going ahead. By doing this, he would be able to emulate Jamal Crawford’s final career moves rather than adhering to the Allen Iverson path.

Once more, take this with a grain of salt. This is only one reporter’s opinion, and it’s probably more of a gut instinct than anything else. However, Mannix has a lot of connections, so this is definitely a little more trustworthy than if it were simply some random person stating it.

Nevertheless, that would be a very terrible way to cap off Westbrook’s otherwise legendary career. You can, however, see it both ways. Westbrook doesn’t need to participate in any more NBA games. He’s made enough money to be likely set for life, so he really doesn’t need the negative.

And we know that Russell Westbrook doesn’t appreciate the negativity, so from that point of view, it wouldn’t be surprising if he did decide to call it quits.
