NBA Reports: Thunders’ Josh Giddey To Lose $40 Million Dollars Over Relationship With Minor

Josh Giddey, the guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, may lose a significant sum of money as the NBA looks into claims made on social media that he had improper contact with a child. Giddey’s most lucrative sponsorship agreement is apparently in danger of ending, even though no legal action has been initiated.

NBA Reports: Thunders’ Josh Giddey To Lose $40 Million Dollars Over Relationship With Minor

According to reports, Giddey might lose his $40 million sponsorship contract with Sanitarium Health Food Company, the Australian cereal brand Weet-Bix, as a result of the NBA’s investigation into claims that he had an improper contact with a minor.

According to Code Sports, the 21-year-old Australian has been taken off of the business’s social media pages.

Sanitarium is aware of the problem, according to a corporate spokeswoman, but said  it had yet to cut ties with Giddey.

“We are obviously aware of news surrounding Josh Giddey and are waiting for facts to be confirmed,” the spokesperson told Code Sports.

“We are in contact with Josh’s management team and waiting on further detail at this point.”

As the inquiry progresses, Giddey—who was previously featured on Weet-Bix cereal boxes and advertising materials—finds himself in a precarious situation. Remarkably, Weet-Bix’s other athlete ambassadors—Alex de Minaur, Ellyse Perry, Marnus Labuschagne, and Tim Cahill—remain visible on the company’s social media platforms.

According to league spokesperson Mike Bass, the NBA is aggressively looking into claims that Giddey had an improper contact with a child. Though there is no sign of police involvement as of Monday morning, the charges first appeared on social media late on Wednesday night.

Giddey declined to comment on the situation at the Thunder’s Friday media availability, claiming a lack of knowledge. This opinion was supported by Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault, who described it as a “personal matter” and decided not provide further commentary.

Giddey started the game for the Sixers on Saturday, but they lost 127-123. He finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists.

Giddey might be played before the game, according to Daigneault.

“Available to play. Will play. No change in status from a basketball standpoint,” Daigneault said. “Still, I have no comment on anything else.

“Just with the information that we have at this point, that’s the decision that we’ve made. It’s really not even a decision, to be honest with you.”

When asked about the investigation, Daigneault said, “It’s obviously a league matter at this point, the ball’s in their court on that.”
