After the Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 121-85, in which Highsmith played three scoreless minutes, he was heading home from Miami’s Kaseya Center on Tuesday night.

Highsmith struck a disabled automobile in the road with its lights out while traveling 45 miles per hour, which is five mph over the legal speed limit, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department collision report that the South Florida Sun Sentinel was able to get. When Highsmith struck the automobile, a guy right behind it was assisting the owner of the damaged car on the road.

In a statement released on Thursday night, Highsmith’s agent Jerry Dianis confirmed the collision and the man’s injuries, referring to it as “an unfortunate accident.” He added that Highsmith was not speeding and had not used drugs or alcohol.

“Dianis stated in his statement that Haywood and his family are in prayer for him.” “Haywood is obviously upset by this and is grateful for the Miami Heat’s and the fans’ prayers and support. We won’t be making any further comments.”

According to the investigation, Highsmith lost control of his vehicle and collided with the disabled automobile and the man standing just behind it.

Highsmith “immediately rushed to help” the victim, according to Dianis’ statement on Thursday. He bandaged the man’s wounds and remained on the site until an ambulance came. Additionally, Dianis stated he had been informed the man’s condition was stable.

In its statement on Wednesday, the Heat said only that “our hearts go out to those who were injured” and that they would have no further information on the tragedy.

According to a Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman, Highsmith’s citation is not regarded as criminal. In the home game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, he did not play.
