NBA Finals 2023: Nikola Jokic Explains The Significance Behind His Plan Pointing Gesture

With a seamless triple-double of 27 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds to help Denver defeat Miami 104-93 and grab a 1-0 series lead, Nuggets star Nikola Joki opened the NBA Finals. The Nuggets center Nikola Jokic, though, transforms into a huge, goofy husband and father once you pull him off the field and away from the pressure of competition.

Nikola Jokic Explains The Significance Behind His Plan Pointing Gesture

As he has done for the duration of the campaign and into the playoffs, Joki was observed after the game making the same signal to his small daughter Ognjena in the audience by pointing to his palm, which she returned before he rose from the floor.

This gesture, which was inspired by one of his toddler daughter Ognjena’s favorite songs, is intended for his little daughter.

It has become a trademarked aspect of the Nuggets player’s postgame ritual, but contrary to what many people believed after watching the exchange’s video, it has nothing to do with Joki’s pursuit for an NBA championship ring.

During the Western Conference finals, he told ESPN, “It’s simply a song we sing, and she enjoys it. “It’s just a song that we sing. It’s not a big deal, but she likes it. And I just want to have some connection with her.”

Jokic gestures to his left hand, which is covered in a wedding band when he isn’t playing basketball. Jokic shows how important family is to him by tying his wedding band into one of his shoes while he’s playing.

“I look at it because I have something more at home that is more important than basketball,” Jokic said before the NBA Finals began, referring to his roles as a husband and father. “I learned this. I knew that but this kind of proved me that I’m correct.”

The relationship between Nikola and Natalija dates back to their adolescent years. They started living in Denver together after Nikola joined the Nuggets before the 2015–16 season, having relocated here before Nikola to pursue a college education.

Since October 2020, Nikola has been wed to his wife, Natalija. In their hometown of Sombor, Serbia, they exchanged vows.

In September 2021, Nikola and Natalija welcomed their daughter, Ognjena. He explained to reporters the previous year how his family gives him fresh life and pleasure.
